VOLUNTEER – Holiday Surprises Shopping, Wrapping and/or Pasta Baskets. TUCSON @ University of Arizona Banner Medical Center
Dec 9 all-day

Holiday Greetings from CCN!

With temperatures almost under 100 degrees in Arizona, it’s time for Children’s Cancer Network 2017 Winter Holiday Surprises Adopt a family program. Families to be adopted for our Holiday Surprises Program are currently being identified by the social workers at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Banner Children’s at Cardon’s Children’s Medical Center, Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. Our goal is to make this winter holiday season a bit brighter and offer hope and support to families dealing with childhood cancer.

There are several ways that you can become involved with this program:

Shopping for the family: Volunteer shoppers will be provided with the family information sheet from their adopted family and allotted funds from Children’s Cancer Network to spend on each family. Some shoppers offer to pick up the cost of the gifts for their family; some provide a portion of the dollar amount. If you wish to contribute towards a family, please let us know the amount when you sign up. Although we appreciate any donations, this is NOT required of our shoppers. Does your company offer matching donations for your own donations? Please let us know.

You will be given guidelines to follow with paperwork for bookkeeping purposes including turning in all receipts for purchases. You can seek donations from businesses if you desire and a donation letter will be included in your packet. We appreciate your time and shopping talents to complete the family’s lists which we plan to distribute to our volunteer shoppers around the first of November.

Wrapping the gifts: Our Wrapping party in Tucson at the University of Arizona Banner Medical Center will be held on Saturday, December 9th from 9:00 to 11am. Our Wrapping party for the Phoenix area will be held in Chandler on Sunday, December 10th. Please sign up for the morning (9-11am) or afternoon shift (1-3pm) shift. All gifts are brought to these parties to be wrapped at this event. All ages are welcome to participate in our huge wrapping party. Supplies will be on hand but donations of wrapping paper and tape are always welcome and bringing your own marked scissors is encouraged.

Pasta baskets: These food baskets continue to be a welcome addition to the holiday gifts. We ask for volunteers to donate the basket and contents and create your own theme. Recipe books, aprons, kitchen utensils along or whatever you wish to add with the food make each basket unique. Baskets are created for family sizes of 4, 6, or 8 family members. Nonperishable and non-alcohol items only please. Have fun!

Would you like to join us with shopping, wrapping, or pasta baskets or a combination? Please let us know as you sign up below!

You can contact Julie at Julie.hein@childrenscancernetwork or Kathy at Kathy.cheatham@childrenscancernetwork.org with any questions. Our Tucson Coordinator is Glenna who can be reached at Glenna.gibbons@childrenscancernetwork.org.

Our Adopt a family programs are is successful due to our wonderful volunteers who help provide hope to families who are currently facing childhood cancer. Thank you.
