Children Cancer Network’s John W. Luttrell Scholarship Fund was established in
2005, receiving its initial funding from friends and family of John Luttrell who passed away that year from brain cancer. Donations were made in John’s name with the goal of assisting
children and their families, whose lives had been impacted by childhood cancer, seek higher
education opportunities.
John was intimately familiar with the struggles that families face fighting childhood cancer, both
through his grandson’s treatments for leukemia and later meeting other patients during his own
treatments for a brain tumor. The annual scholarships in his name will be a small reward for the
strength and courage that these families demonstrate in their daily lives.
The Children’s Cancer Network awards scholarships for both childhood cancer survivors and also to a sibling or
parent whose life has been impacted by a child (living or deceased) with cancer.
The awards may be used for books and tuition for applicants seeking post high school
education opportunities including, but not limited to, Universities (Baccalaureate, Masters or
Doctoral programs), Community Colleges and Trade Schools. The scholarships will be made
payable to the recipient’s school on behalf of the recipient.
Applications will initially be provided to "pediatric oncology" practices providing services to patients in
Arizona and Illinois and in future years will be posted on National Scholarship web sites.
