In June 2008 Children's Cancer Network was selected to become a sponsor for the "Adopt-a-Room" Program at the new Ronald McDonald House on the campus of Phoenix Children's Hospital. One of eighteen guest rooms, Children's Cancer Network chose an efficiency apartment to individually decorate and maintain. Over the course of three days, the Children's Cancer Network Board and volunteers painted, furnished and decorated. Generous donations of furniture from The Room Store and electronics from Best Buy in Chandler were greatly appreciated. Our goal was to make the apartment a "home away from home" with a comfy feeling. Children's Cancer Network happily presented their results at an Open House held for the public on June 23rd.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix provides temporary housing for the growing number of families who must travel to Phoenix from all over Arizona and the Southwest to receive treatment at any of the three Valley hospitals. Ronald McDonald Houses have met this need for families around the world since 1974 and in Phoenix since 1985. There is a nominal fee to stay in a Ronald McDonald House; however, Ronald McDonald House does not turn away families who cannot pay.
Children's Cancer Network supports the children and families dealing with childhood cancer by helping Ronald McDonald House provide a comfortable, safe atmosphere and ease the financial burden for these deserving families.
