The Children’s Cancer Network Survivorship Conference, “Surviving Childhood Cancer: Surviving Today, Thriving Tomorrow” on September 25, 2010 was a huge success! The 145 participants explored the world of survivorship in three separate tracks: school-aged/teen survivors and siblings; young adults; and parents. Health care providers attended their track of choice.
Rick Guidotti, an award winning internationally acclaimed photographer, opened the conference with his Positive Exposure photo and video presentation celebrating the richness and beauty of human diversity. Other opportunities at the day-long conference included lectures by national and local speakers, small group discussions, panel discussions, and a full resource fair with 35 organizations, as well as activities that focused on networking, relaxation, and nutrition.
This experience was all about gaining knowledge, resources, and support, which are so beneficial to cancer survivors and their families. How rewarding it was to see the connections made by so many throughout the day. Most would agree that through celebrating survivorship, they had discovered ways not just to survive, but to thrive!
